Is this our future if GOP wins in 2024? Plus: Naming names in CPAC groping scandal. Also: Rethinking 'Woke.' And: Set course for Off-Broadway, Trekkies! Tickets are on sale for 'Khan!!! The Musical!'
Thanks for rising up this Thursday, March 9, 2023, or as my friend Robin Roberts calls it, “Friday Eve!” It was on this day in 1959 that the first Barbie doll was displayed at the New York Toy Fair, and an impossibly proportioned legend was born.
Here Now the News:
“THIS OUGHT TO SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF ALL OF US:” Watch the video tweeted by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) Wednesday, showing her parading into the House of Representatives to gavel the chamber into order.
Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) appointed MTG “Speaker pro-tempore” in recognition of International Women’s Day. This was two years after she was removed from her committees by the then-Democratic majority for her extreme posts on social media. Video of Greene wielding the gavel has so far been viewed more than a million times, and fueled a whole lotta tweets. —The Independent

The survey shows 56% of those participating say the term means "to be informed, educated on, and aware of social injustices."
That includes not only three-fourths of Democrats but also more than a third of Republicans.
The pollsters also surveyed opinions on teaching about slavery, “Critical Race Theory,” book bans and gender-nonconforming pronouns. —USAToday

MAN ACCUSING CPAC LEADER OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT IS REPUBLICAN OPERATIVE: The man who has accused Matt Schlapp, the influential leader of the Conservative Political Action Conference, of sexual misconduct, came forward publicly Wednesday after a judge said he must use his real name to proceed with a lawsuit. —Washington Post
Carlton Huffman, 39, a longtime aide to Republican campaigns and a resident of Raleigh, N.C., said he plans to amend the previously anonymous lawsuit, which seeks $9.4 million in damages for alleged sexual battery and defamation.
“I’m not backing away,” Huffman said in an interview with The Post. “I’m not going to drop this. Matt Schlapp did what he did and he needs to be held accountable.”
Huffman recorded a video describing what he says happened, hours after the alleged incident.
Schlapp and his attorneys have denied the allegations.
