Heads Up, Trans Haters! The Deadline is Today!
This is the last opportunity for trolls — oh, and also supporters — to sound-off on the proposed rules for inclusion of transgender athletes in schools. Plus: Bari Weiss CANCELED. And: UGH! Allergies!
Thanks for rising up with me on this Monday, May 15, 2023. It was 5 years ago today that the brilliant surgeon Dr. Jess Ting and his expert team performed a life-saving operation that changed my life. I am forever grateful, especially because I had to fight like hell to get that surgery. Read about it here.
On this day in 1800, President John Adams moved our nation’s capital from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. Seemed like a good idea at the time!
And you know that line about “those who fail to learn from history”? Yeah, well, somebody somewhere in D.C. didn’t look up what happened on this day in 1988, when the Soviets pulled out of Afghanistan. It was a mess then and again in 2020. BTW, the Biden administration is blaming President Trump.

“THE COMMENT SECTION LOST ITS MIND:” USA Today sums up how horrible some of the 134K comments are, in opposing the proposed change to Title IX that would allow transgender student-athletes to compete in schools according to their authentic gender identity. Even some supporters of inclusion have critiqued the proposal for not going far enough.
Read coverage of the rule change here, read the actual rule document here, and then, if you’re ready, read about the comments here.

NEW STATEMENT FROM BANNED DISC GOLFER: “The law is on our side and they know it,” says Natalie Ryan in a new post on Instagram.

HEALTHCARE TRADE GROUP THAT BOOKED, THEN CANCELED BARI WEISS, HAS HISTORY OF BLUNDERS: As I reported exclusively for the Los Angeles Blade, the complaints that pushed the American Academy of Physicians Associates to cancel this coming weekend’s appearance by anti-trans pundit Bari Weiss, are hardly the first the group has heard.
Previously, organizers planned to have former brain surgeon and ex-Trump cabinet member Ben Carson appear, according to Shani Wilson, president-elect of the AAPA’s LGBTQ Caucus.
They’ve also been criticized for having Nashville, Tenn. host this year’s conference, which gets underway Friday, given that Tennessee has some of the worst anti-LGBTQ legislation in the nation. —Los Angeles Blade
NEW REACTION FROM AWARD-WINNING HARVARD INSTRUCTOR AND CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST ALEJANDRA CARABALLO: “I am glad that the AAPA listened to the concerns of trans patients and Physician Assistants and responded accordingly. Bari Weiss has consistently worked to limit access to care for trans people around the country. Her presence at the conference is inappropriate given the AAPA's past support for LGBTQ healthcare.”
