Oh, The Places I’ve Gone!
I am in Indiana as I write this, 11+ hours and 733 miles from home, after a whirlwind week away from social media and all y’all!
Scroll down for an explanation of the photos in this collage of my travels!
Tonight’s Bedtime Stories is brief due to the fact I’m writing this post using my iPhone while my oldest child is driving us home. I’ll be taking the wheel as soon as the sun sets!
Thanks for being a subscriber to RiseUP on this Sunday, June 4, 2023.
If you’re asking, where have I been? Well, that’s exactly what tonight’s newsletter is all about! Sorry to have not delivered the usual number of posts, but it’s been a busy time for me.
And if you didn’t even notice my absence, I promise I didn’t miss you, either, LOL.
On this day in 1919, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution passes Congress, prohibiting restrictions on voting based on sex. But it would be 50 years before women of color would be able to exercise that same right to vote.

And in 1989, this was the day the Chinese government began its deadly crackdown on democracy protesters in Tiananmen Square.

Here Now Some News:
We’re now in Ohio and the internet isn’t what it was in Indiana!

Where I’ve Been
This weekend my eldest graduated with a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Chicago! His sisters and I cheered him on as he received his turquoise hood. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I shed a tear or two. Sean is now looking for his first job in government or public affairs. Anybody hiring?
Before leaving Connecticut, I spoke at our state Capitol alongside elected leaders, advocates and a drag queen —Robin Fierce of RuPaul’s Drag Race — before the raising of the LGBTQ+ Pride Flag.
Later that evening, I joined my fellow members of West Hartford Pride as we raised our town’s Pride Flag. It’s so important that our town recognizes this month, and our community. And I was thrilled that my youngest daughter and her singing group, the Hall High Choraliers kicked off the festivities.
Star Trek Corner
And as mentioned last week, I took part in news media interviews with the stars of Star Trek Strange New Worlds.
What did they say? I’ll have the answer in a story in The Daily Beast next week!
That’s all for tonight, from a gas station in Ohio! I’ll be back tomorrow with details from my interviews and the news you need to help you rise up and start your day. Until then… Good night and good luck!
